Conserve water, use low flow toilets and shower heads and faucets
Repair leaky toilets and faucets immediately
Keep downspouts and other drainage away from the disposal area
Pump your tank on a regular basis, and inspect your system for damage for problems-replace all damaged and leaky steel tanks
Call a DEQ licensed installer or pumper when you have a problem-obtain required repair permits
Compost your food scraps or put in the trash
Maintain the replacement area
Maintain the area as a lawn
DON'TS
Use a garbage disposal
Use the toilet as a garbage receptacle-sanitary napkins, diapers, condoms, or other non-biodegradable products
Pour paint, oil, photo-chemicals, thinners, yard pesticides, or other chemicals down the drain or toilet
Drive or park on the drain field area
Plant trees, perennials, or large plants in the drain field area or landscape area-bark dust or mulch are bad news
Dig in the drain field or build any structure over the system-this includes the tank and distribution units
Use additives, bacteria, enzymes, or other chemical products
Irrigate heavily over the septic system
